Apr 2017: Micah Asia Regional Consultation
Micah Asia Regional Consultation 24 April 2017 - 28 April 2017 Venue: Thailand (2 hours drive from Bangkok city) Theme: Integral Mission and the Common Good.
What is the purpose of the State and of government? Both a Biblical and secular understanding of the role of the State is to ensure that all people, especially the most vulnerable, have access to the common good. This includes good governance which draws on the resources of the State to ensure the needs of the people are met; to provide opportunities for all to meaningfully contribute to life within an environment of freedom, justice, safety and wellbeing.
The common good recognises our interdependence and interconnectedness on one another. What does seeking the common good like in the Asian context and what role does the church have to play in this?
Combining teaching & discussions and theology & practical application, we will explore topics such as:
Good governance
Competent leadership
Re-thinking church, aid and mission
Sustainable Development Goals
Corruption and fraud
Interfaith dialogue
Urban Shalom
… all through the lens of integral mission. As we meet and reflect together at this consultation we hope to apply an integral mission lens to our approach to community transformation, to poverty reduction, to issues of injustice and exclusion, to areas of conflict, seeking to be Shalom bringers in each context.
The Asia context with its diverse religions, restricted freedoms, internal and transnational challenges and conflicts requires us to explore creative and practical response to advocate for justice and enable transformation at national and grass root levels.
