WE'VE DONE IT!

We worked with Graceworks (Rev Dr Tan Soo-Inn and Bernice Lee), and a host of contributors, to bring together this book for the Singapore Church.

Now available for purchase at Graceworks online store.

"This book seeks to both encourage those who are serious about following Christ but who are struggling with same-sex attraction, and to challenge the church to lend a listening ear and a helping and welcoming hand. The stories in this book are told with pathos, honesty, and courage.

We must all recognise that whatever our story or struggle with sin (and we all have struggles), God has chosen us to be His children so that we can be conformed to the likeness of His Son. The church should understand this and provide a safe redemptive space to all of us sinners, whatever our problem, surrounded by the sheltering canopy of God’s unchanging truth and abiding love."

From the Foreword by Bishop Emeritus Dr Robert Solomon,
The Methodist Church in Singapore

WHY DO THIS?

The issue of how the Church treats LGBT persons have divided churches worldwide. Here in Singapore, while many churches and Christians hold to the Biblical view of sexual ethics, they feel ill equipped to help Christians with SSA live flourishing lives. Conversely, Christians with SSA feel that churches here could be better gospel communities to them.

This book therefore seeks to plug the gap between Biblical teaching on sexual ethics and gospel community on one hand and their application to positive examples of churches and Christians as gospel communities to people with SSA on the other hand.

The urgency and importance of this task cannot be understated. Being a gospel community to people with SSA is a matter of the Church living up to its calling as the called out ones transformed by the Gospel to love, justice and compassion. The Church’s witness to a watching world and discipleship of an enquiring younger generation of members will be significantly impacted by the Church’s response on this pivotal issue. We believe that if the Gospel is the best response, then the Church needs to show the world and her young how the Gospel is lived out and embodied to people with SSA. If the Church fails on this, the Church will fail in its witness to the world and lose its younger generation.

This book does not purport to be the only or best solution to help the Church get there. But we hope that this book will help church leaders and Christians in Singapore better understand Christians with SSA and undertake critical self-examination. We hope they will then take further steps to better listen, equip, transform, journey with, and love, to the glory of God.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

  • How can your church be more of a gospel community to Christians with Same Sex Attraction (SSA)?

  • How can you and your church help SSA Christians stay faithful to Biblical teaching on sexual ethics and live flourishing lives at the same time?

  • How much of what’s happening in your church and how you or church members react to SSA persons is Biblical, pastoral, gospel-rooted and loving?

  • How can the Singapore Church help the world see that there is another viable way for those who with SSA?

This book presents true stories of Singapore Christians who have wrestled with the above issues, and theological, pastoral and practical approaches to these issues. Contributors speak from perspectives of:

  1. Christians with SSA.

  2. Parents of Christians with SSA.

  3. Pastors who have journeyed with Christians with SSA.

  4. Friends who have journeyed with Christians with SSA.

  5. Cell group and ministry leaders who have journeyed with Christians with SSA.

  6. Friends who have journeyed with non-Christians with SSA.

  7. Pastors and church leaders who want to change the culture of the church to become more of a gospel community to Christians with SSA.

While accessible to lay Christians, the primary audience is leaders in their local church (down to cell group level), for their pastoral equipping.

We conducted a crowdfunding campaign in the first quarter of 2018. Thanks to many generous donors who believe in this cause, we exceeded our targets! We will give a complimentary copy to every lead pastor in Singapore.
